Rain Days

The rain defines your complacent interior.
This is the roof, the window, their presence
And their qualities – the pin-point of a sucked
Tooth, cool and precise. You’ve heard it before:
The bubble wrap pop, the glottal stop of water
Spliced in the deluge of its own punctuation,
But that was then. Now, each thing finds its place.
What falls, falls on your memory, the rain forms
A tabernacle, containing all your days of rain.
Hunch your shoulders, rain-crow at the lectern,
Pore the numbers, count them, drop by drop.
